LAST WEEK OF CLASSES!  It is also class photo week, so don't forget to send along your dancers in their dance costumes for their group shots!

FLASHMOB - 

On Saturday, May 28th, GNAG Dancers and staff surprised the crowds at the Great Glebe Garage Sale with a flashmob! We had around 100 participants, stopping crowds and traffic!

PHOTO PERMISSION FORM

GNAG Dance frequently takes photos in class and at the upcoming recital. We will be verifying this week with parents once again that your dancers have permission to be photographed at the GNAG events. This includes group or individual photos taken of your dancer in class or at the recital, which may be used in our brochures, website, facebook pages, and any other form of advertising for the GNAG programs. Please note - dancers will NOT be identified by name.

Dance recital is THIS SUNDAY!

Doors will open at 12pm for parents and dancers, with the show beginning at 1pm. Dancers will sit on assigned blue mats in front of the chairs, and parents can sit anywhere they choose. A list of the order of dances will be posted on the walls in the Main Hall the day of the recital. 

Admission to the recital is free of charge, and there will be a fundraising bake sale and raffle, so bring your loonies and toonies! 

The recital will be recorded and available for sale ($12 cash only) to those who have pre-ordered. Forms are available at the front desk and the dance studio.

The following classes will be asked to come rehearse and set up at 10am on Sunday:

• Ballet 11-14
• Contemporary 13-17
• Contemporary 11-14
• Intensive 1, 2, and 3

1 - Flashmob is THIS SATURDAY!

 For those participating in our first GNAG Dance Flashmob, here is what you need to know!

• we are meeting in the MULTI PURPOSE ROOM at 11AM on Saturday. We will do a few run throughs, answer any questions.
• We are performing at 12PM (NOON) right on the street at the intersection of Lyon and Third, and will be facing down Lyon towards the GCC. (we will make a human barrier to protect the dancers from all four corners)
• You can wear whatever you want
• PLEASE film and post up on Youtube as GNAG Flashmob 2011 

2 - Dance Classes are still on this Saturday

• Ballet 8-10 and Intensives 1, 2, 3 still have classes on Saturday! Very important to attend as we are taking our class photos!

3 - Dance Class Photos are this week!

• Starting May 28th-June 3rd, we will be taking dance class photos as a fundraiser for the GNAG Dance Program
• To receive a copy of the group photo, you must pre-order before the end of the week (June 3)
• Please do not forget to send your dancer to dance class with all costume pieces
• Dance photos can be picked up on June 5th at the Dance Recital

4 - Dance Recital is Sunday, June 5th

• Doors will open at 12pm. 
• Dancers should arrive between then at 12:50pm in the Main Hall in full costume
• Intensive 1, 2, 3 and contemporary 11-14/13-17 will be asked to arrive at 10am Sunday Morning
• DVDs of the recital are available for pre-order no later than June 5
• Admission to the Dance Recital is free. There will be a bake sale and raffle event taking place, so don’t forget to bring some loonies!

GNAG Dance reminders for the week!

Here are several important reminders for you before the long weekend!

1) No classes on Saturday, May 21st or Monday, May 23rd (due to the long weekend!)

2) There WILL be classes on May 28th (Great Glebe Garage Sale)

3) CLASS PHOTO DAY! Begins on May 28th - June 3rd! Please remember to send your dancer with their full costumes to dance class that week! If you are interested in ordering a photo in support of the GNAG dance fundaiser, do so before the photo day!

4) You can still hand in flashmob permission forms (up until the 27th), photo order forms (up until the last day of classes), and DVD order forms (no later than June 5th!)

6) Details on the flashmob - we are still looking for some designated camera people! On the day of the Great Glebe Garage Sale, dancers are asked to meet in the Multi Purpose Room of the GCC at 11am to rehearse with the entire group. The perfomance will be at noon on Lyon and Third, lasting approximately 3 minutes

Flashmob rehearsal, dance recital pictures/dvds, and Coastal Dance Rage Fall 2011

FLASHMOB 

Great Glebe Garage Sale is a mere few weeks away! All the classes have begun learning the routine, and it is looking fantastic!

We know that some parents would like to take part in our event, and so we are arranging a special rehearsal just for you! This Friday, from 2:30-3:00pm in the Dance Studio, come learn the routine! If this time does not work for you, please let Kailena Know!  We may ask you to drop in on one of the 5pm or later dance classes throughout the week!

For parents who are not so keen on dancing but would like to participate, we are looking for some designated camera people for the event so we can post it up! Let us know if you can lend a hand.

DANCE RECITAL

DVD order forms can be dropped off any time ($12 per DVD), along with class photo order forms ($15 per class). Money collected for the class photos will go towards our GNAG Dance Fundraiser.

Don’t forget, on the last day of classes (May 30-June 3) we are asking that ALL DANCERS wear their costumes to class for their class photo! 

COASTAL DANCE RAGE FALL 2011 - OCTOBER 1-2

Before our spring session is over for the summer, we would like to organize a group to attend Coastal Dance Rage, a fall dance convention which is taking place here in Ottawa on October 1-2nd. 

What is a dance convention?

• dancers ages 7 and up take part in multiple classes throughout the day
• classes are in a variety of styles, including hip hop, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, tap, etc.
• dancers are divided by age group and dance abilities
• classes are taught by top choreographers in the industry
• each dancer wears a number attached to their clothing. At the end of each hour-long class, choreographers use these numbers to select dancers for scholarships and prizes

Do I as a parent have to attend?

• Parents may observe the classes for a small fee
• If parents unable to attend for the two days, GNAG Dance will travel as a group and dancers will be supervised by volunteer parents and GNAG staff during the event

How Much will it cost to register?

• The price has not been determined yet for the convention, but we are working on an affordable price for our participants. In the past, tuition for the convention has been $200, but we are estimating around $150 (maybe less!) for the weekend

How do I register my dancer?

• GNAG dance will register as a group in June, so if your dancer is interested in attending CDR in Ottawa this October, email Kailena so she can send you more details!

GNAG dance has attended many conventions in the past four years, with many scholarships and awards being presented to our deserving and hard-working participants. Last year in Ottawa, we brought a group of 38 GNAG dancers; it was indeed a weekend to remember.

Here’s whats new with GNAG Dance this month!

GNAG Dancewear Orders due: THIS THURSDAY!

Please return your order forms to Kailena before Thursday. We are ordering:

• GNAG sweatpants in black or royal blue, with the option of blue or pink logo for the black sweatpants.
• fitted black shirts with GNAG dance logo in sparkly blue
• GNAG Dance black spandex shorts

All orders are due no later than THIS THURSDAY, MAY 5th. No exceptions.

Flashmob Information - MAY 28th at NOON on Third and Lyon!

The dance classes for the dancers ages 8 and up have begun learning the routine that will be performed on May 28th at the Great Glebe Garage Sale, on the corner of Lyon and Third Avenue. 

Anyone is welcome to participate and learn the routine (parents included!) so if your dancer would like to teach a friend the part they are doing they are more than welcome to participate. For dancers to participate in the event, they MUST have parental permission by handing in the form 

At 11:00am on Saturday, May 28th, we will have a final run-through of the dance in the Multi Purpose Room in the Community Centre.

*NEW* Dance class photos!

As a fundraiser for the dance program, we will be taking class photos, and selling them for $15 each (cash only).

CLASS PHOTOS WILL BE TAKEN ON THE LAST WEEK OF DANCE CLASSES (MAY 30th-JUNE 3rd). DANCERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR THEIR COSTUMES TO THEIR LAST DANCE CLASS!

Since this is a fundraiser for the dance program, we ask that no other cameras be present in the room during the group photo. The photos will be ready for pick up on the day of the recital (June 5th)

The Recital will be recorded and available for purchase for $12 (cash only!). If you are interested in pre-ordering your DVD of the performance, fill out the order form and return to the front desk of the GCC no later than June 5th.
